I love mint flavored dishes due to its refreshing aroma and different taste. My daughter also has started liking it and I make this mint rice once a fortnight for their lunch box. Whenever I buy a pack of fresh I always check for new recipes to make the most for the fresh mint. As most of the leaves wither soon which hurts me lots. In all my efforts I ended up throwing at least some bunches in the garbage.

After posting sweet dishes for Diwali here I am with a healthy thogayal which can be mixed up with rice or can be served for idli/dosa. If using for idli/dosa slightly make it dilute with some water.Here I have posted two types of making it in which one is with coconut and the other without. For one without coconut I sourced it from here and for other, I tried my own version.

Murungai/moringa leaves are the healthiest green and are rich in iron. Unlike other greens, many don't prefer this green may be due to the shape. While other greens wilts on sauteeing but his moringa leaves remain as such even after sauteeing. You can include in Adai (savory lentil crepes), soups, poriyals, etc. As my daughter is anemic I have started including it in her diet.

This chutney takes hardly 5 mins to prepare and taste awesome with idli or dosa.With no further delay let's see how make make this yummiest kara chutney.

This is a sweet, spiced, and tangy chutney/dip. Making this dip is so easy, just boil the ingredientss and grind it. Instead of tomato, you can use vinegar also. In that case just boilree chill in water. THen grind it with vinegar.

Fresh Red Chili Sauce

When I saw this bright red colored fresh red chili in the market I immediately grabbed some to make few recipes. Apart from this sauce, I didn't do any recipe and the remaining just went into curries and sabzis. This is one of the winter recipes and I bought this along with fresh turmeric in December. This post was lying in my draft. This sauce can be used to the side for momos, crackers and can even use in making any masala. Recently I used it to make potato masala for roti which turned out yummy.

Betel Leaves Chutney/ Thogayal


Easy betel leaves chutney that goes well with hot steamed rice. I got this recipe idea from nee's kitchen and slightly adjusted to my taste. My kids don't like them but I liked it. The betel leaves itself have little spice hence add green chili according to it. This thokku/thogayal can be kept for a long time if the ground paste is sauteed again in oil till all water evaporates. But I didn't do that as I finished off that day itself.

Kadamba chutney is a made with a mix of many ingredients which goes well for idli/dosa or any millet dosa. Have you seen flower vendors selling kadambam flowers which have a mix of different color flowers and in the same way this chutney also have a mix of different ingredients and hence may be the name( I don't know the exact reason for this chutney and it's my wild guess.) I served this for instant ragi dosa which I will share very soon. Let us see how to make this easy chutney.

Simple lentils thogayal is a easy dip which can be mixed with hot steaming rice along with ghee. One can make this dip with coconut also. But here I didn't use any coconut. Yesterday when I was lazy to make any kuzhambu for rice I made this thogayal , mixed up with rice and had my lunch. It was super tasty and easy to make. I tried to capture a quick video with my mobile.

Ginger which we know aid for digestion  ,high in gingerol as substance high in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant property.Ginger can be used either in fresh or dried form.It cures stomach upsets,diarrhea,morning sickness  nausea and vomiting after surgery, as well as loss of appetite.Try to add this ginger in any food in  you meal either while cooking or while making any beverages.This chutney is one form of eating ,if don't like the aroma of ginger it will be difficult for you to eat this,in that case add little jaggery with it.
