Vazhapoo Thoran | Banana Flower Sidedish


I rarely make this kootu/side dish at home because it is lightly has bitter taste and my kids refuse to eat it.But one must consider its health benefit and eat atleast once a a while.

Cooking time:under 15 mins

Ingredients:


  • Banana flower-1
  • salt to taste
  • buttermilk- to immerse the chopped pieces


To grind:


  • Grated coconut-3\4 cup
  • Jeera-1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • Green chilly-2 r 3 (adjust)
  • Garlic flakes-3 (optional)


To temper:


  • Oil-2 tsp
  • mustard-1 tsp
  • curry leaves




Method:

1.Chop banana flower in to small pieces and immerse it in butter to avoid dis colouration .Grind the ingredients under "to grind " to a coarse paste.

2.Add the chopped flower pieces with very little water and cook the pieces covered.In about 5-8 minutes it will be done.

3.Then add the ground paste and salt ,cook till raw smell goes and everything blends well.Switch off.


4.Temper and serve for rice.
