Bitter gourd Coconut gravy | Pavakkai Pitlai


My love for pavakkai/ bitter gourd is growing day by day after trying my pavakkai kuhambu from priya's space.This to tasted  too good with the goodness of protein in it.Thanks priya for sharing such healthy recipes truly these will be made often in my kitchen.




Preparation time:10 mins
cooking time: under 30 mins

Ingredients:

To roast and grind:

  • oil-2 tsp
  • Grated coconut-1\3 cup
  • Red chilly-3 r 4(adjust)
  • Channa dal-3 tsp
  • Curry leaves

Other:

  • Toor dal-1\3 cup
  • Pavakkai/bitter gourd-3
  • Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • Tamarind -a lemon size
  • Jaggery- a small piece
  • Salt to taste


To temper:

  • Oil-1 tbsp
  • Mustard-2 tsp
  • Red chilly-1
  • Curry leaves



Method:

1.Roast the ingredients under " to roast and grind" in a pan.Cool and grind to fine paste with water.Deseed the bitter gourd,cut in to small pieces and soak them in salt water.

2.Pressure cook the cleaned toor dal .Extract tamarind juice from it and keep ready.



3.Drain water from the bitter gourd,add to tamarind juice and cook.When done add the masala paste,salt turmeric powder,cook till raw smell goes.Lastly add the cooked dal,jaggery piece  and wait for few minuted till everything blends well.Check for salt.




Temper with the ingredients given and serve for hot rice.
