Ghugni/DriedPeas Chaat | Bengali Street Food


We all love chaat items think most of you agree with it and this peas chaat is one of the famous street food in Bengal. You can have it as such or eat as side for roti/appam.

Soaking time: 6-8 hrs
preparation time: 15 mins
Cooking time: under 30 mins

Ingredients:


  • Dried yellow peas-1 cup
  • onion-1 big,chopped
  • tomato-1,chopped
  • ginger garlic paste-1 tsp
  • Red chilly powder-1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1\4 tsp
  • Cumin powder-1\2 tsp
  • garam masala-1\4 tsp
  • black salt-1\4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil-3 tsp
  • jeera-1\4 tsp
  • Mint chutney-to top it(i didn't use)
  • Coriander leaves- to garnish




Method:

1.Soak peas for 6-8 hrs in water.then drain the water and pressure cook for 2-3 whistle with water,salt and turmeric powder .

2.Heat oil in a pan,add jeera followed by chopped onion and saute till it becomes translucent.Then add ginger garlic paste ,saute till raw smell goes.

3.Then add chopped tomato and cook till it becomes mushy followed by all dry powders*(except garam masala).then add in cooked peas with the stock and wait for everything to blend well.

4.Lastly add garam masala and wait for few seconds and switch off.

While serving add chopped onion,mint chutney ,cumin powder on top then squeeze lemon juice over it.

Serve hot.


Note:

1.The original recipe calls to use tamarind pulp but i didn't use.
