Masoor Dal in Spinach | Protein packed recipe | Gravy for Rice

Need to say anything about this great combo masoor dal and spinach.This unbeatable combination nourishes your body with protein,iron and folic acid.Try it.

Ingredients:


  • Masoor dal/split red lentils-1\2 cup
  • Chopped spinach-1\2 cup
  • oil-3 tsp
  • cumin/jeera seeds-1 tsp
  • onions,finely chopped-1
  • tomato chopped-1 medium sized
  • turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • mango powder(amchur)-1 tsp(i didn't use it here)
  • salt to taste


red chilly powder-1\2 tsp

to grind:


  • garlic cloves-5
  • green chilly-2
  • ginger-small piece




Method:

1.Clean masoor dal and pressure cook it with 1&1\2 cup water for 3-4 whistle or till done.
grind garlic,ginger and green chilly to a coarse paste.



2.Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan,add jeera  and allow it to crackle.

3.Then add onion and saute till it becomes translucent.

4.Then add tomato and saute for a while.followed by dal,spinach,prepared paste,salt,turmeric powder and amchur powder(if adding) and  mix well.Simmer it for 7-10 mins and stir occasionally.






5.Just before serving heat a tsp of oil add chilly powder and pour over it.

Serve with hot steamed rice.
