Dhokla Recipe | Famous Gujarathi Dish

Dhokla

Dhokla was in my do to do list for a long time,last month itself i bought the ingredients for it but didn't do.On Saturday when my kids are at home i assured  my daughter i will make it for you and made this and two more dishes on that day,one i have posted yesterday custard cookies and other eggless wheat dates cake will follow.My daughter wandered and asked why making so many,i replied her i decided so made it.Now to the recipe,this can be made in MW too,but i made it in my idli steamer.



Ingredients:


  • Besan flour/kadalai maavoo- 1 cup
  • curd/yogurt- 2 tsp
  • Water-  1\2 cup
  • Green chilly-1
  • Ginger- 1 inch piece
  • turmeric powder-1\4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Eno fruit salt- 1 tsp(use regular or lemon flavor)
  • Lemon juice- 1 tsp
  • Sugar- 1 tsp


For tempering:


  • Mustard
  • curry leaves
  • grated coconut
  • water- 1 tbsp
  • Oil





Method:

1.Grind green chilly and ginger to a  paste with very little water.

2.In a mixing bowl add besan flour,salt sugar,curd,lemon juice,turmeric powder ,ground paste and mix well,then add water and mix it well.the consistency should be more of dropping one not pouring one.(similar to idli batter).

3.Just before keeping it into the idli steamer add the eno fruit salt and mix well,it will bubble out,mix well and steam it.




4.In about 10-12 mins it will be done,check it by inserting a knife,if it comes out clean its done else keep it for some more time.



5.After done cool it for some time,invert it and cut into pieces.



6.To temper, heat oil,pop out mustard,curry leaves and add little water, mix and pour it over it.Sprinkle it with grated coconut.

Serve with coconut chutney or green chutney.We had it with coconut chutney.




Note:

1.If u don't have eno fruit salt u can use  baking soda.

2.I just used one green chilly as my kids have to eat,u can add  more.

3.You can use cooker also to steam it without valve.
