Flattened Rice/Poha Dish | Easy Breakfast Recipe

flattened rice/poha dish

This is one of the easiest, simplest, healthiest dish one can make for a breakfast/snack. The ingredients needed for will be sure in all kitchen. I often make as evening snacks and rarely for breakfast and daughter like this dish more.

Try this.

Ingredients:

  • Poha/flattened rice/Aval- 1 cup
  • Onion- 1\2 sliced
  • Green chili -1 minced
  • Oil- 2 tsp.
  • Salt to taste
  • Grated coconut- 1\3 cup
  • Cashew-few
  • Mustard- 1 tsp.

Method:

1.Take aval in a bowl and wash it,drain and keep aside.Do this just before you are going to Cook as poha doesn't sit in water for more than 5 mins.( else it will be mushy).

2.Heat oil in a wok/pan,pop out mustard, add cashew, then add onion & green chili and saute for a while.

3.Then add the drained poha/flattened rice to it, and sprinkle salt according to ur taste and mix.

4.Cook in very low heat for  2-3 mins.switch off flame.

5.Garnish with grated coconut and serve.

You doesn't need any chutney for this, if u prefer u may serve. I like to eat it with sugar and my daughter will eat it as like that. Its up to you.

Note:

1.You can do many variation with it,add peanuts instead of cashew ,squeeze lemon juice, turmeric powder while sauteing,By doing so u get lemon poha.

2.You can add some cooked veggies like carrot.beans, potato to it and make vegetable poha.

3.For thick poha variety soak in for some more time.
