Pearl Millet/Kambu/Bajra Pongal- Recipe with Pearl millet | Healthy breakfast

As I have said earlier in my posts apart from white rice I use other cereals to make dosai, pongal. You can see many such pongals like oats pongal, wheat pongal, ragi dosai, thinnai dosai, etc.Try to use these cereals more in your food at least twice a week. This time I made kambu pongal and it was excellent.I made it in my rice cooker, you can even make it with your ordinary cooker.
Try this and let me know.

Ingredients:

  • Kambu/pearl millet- 1 cup
  • Yellow moongdal- 1\4 cup
  • Water-4 cups
  • Whole pepper- 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin/jeera- 1\2 tsp
  • Green chillies-1
  • ginger-a small piece
  • cashew-little
  • Ghee+oil- 2 tsp
  • salt
  • cilantro

Method:

1.Dry roast kambu in pan, careful not to burn it.Just pulse it in ur blender/mixer in pulser/whipper mode.

2.Add kambu,Dal in to ur cooker and pour 3 .1\2 -4 cups water, since kambu get time to cook,we have to add more water, add salt to it.

3.Since I used my rice cooker,i don't know the whistles,may be approx. 4-5 or 15 mins.

4.After the steam has released, open it and mash well.

5.Heat a pan ,add oil+ghee and other ingredients like, jeera, pepper corns, green chillies, minced ginger and saute for a while, then add cashew ,chopped cilantro give a quick saute and transfer it to the cooked pongal.

6.Serve hot with chutney or sambar.

We had it with coconut chutney.

Note:

1.While cooking u can add even 1\4 cup milk to it, which enhance the richness and taste.
